Long time no see, yes of course, we miss all of you just as much. The last couple of months have been packed with screenplay writing, location hunting, lots and lots of sweating in this heatwave, making phonecalls, drinking coffee, doing e-mails, lack of sleep, myspace ruins our lives, doing auditions etc etc. While phoning around for permission for several very nifty, cinematographic locations, it has come to our attention that the world is gonna keep on looking uglier. Beautiful old buildings are being torn down, to make room for higher classed condo buildings, atomic era swimmingpools will be replaced by happy-wild-ride-slides and kids these days are ape-shit crazy. We just got off the phone with a company that has bought the abandoned swimmingpool that sits in the city centre of Leuven, near the Hogeschoolplein. They start the slow killing next week. Luckily, kind souls like Wereldkeuken (by the way big it up for this fella, since he has been so kind as to help us look for an abandoned pool) has eternalized this building on the sensitive photographic plate. Hey kids, just a short one this time around. New trend of the day: ads created by users, an agency's worst nightmare. Read more about it right here. The example they use is Tyson Ibele's Sony ad, a gem as they say. It's been around for a while and has been picked up now that it won a contest. You can read more behind the scenes goodies here. (you might wanna register first) Tyson is only 19 years old and we've always been impressed by the things he posted on the CG-society fora. Be sure to click his name and roam around his site cuz it's filled with crazy delicious quicktimes and jpg's, the kind we swallow without chomping and afterwards lick our fingers like a stripper would. Also, he has been so kind as to write down some tutorials, a geek-read for some, a must read for geeks. Despite his young age he's already working as a vfx-artist at MAKE studio, the one that brought us that Nike Robots ad a while back. We, team VX, have won several battles but were quite surprised by Noc's comeback, blocking us out of the editing priviledges (since he is the head admin. there) and hacking our latest post. Hence a crossover post that should be (and was) on vxwars but now back in it's true form on dailydolores. We got home today from kind-of-work and the first thing we stumbled upon was this sweet gif-animation that brought back many nostalgic childhood memories. (no gif-animations in blogspot? CLICK HERE to see it play, please do or you're missing out on funny stuff) All the Goonies-fans in the house get a bright golden star from Grandmaw Dolores. We started thinking back of all the kids that starred in that film. The only ones we could remember were Corey Feldman, Indiana Jone's Short Round, a cute red-head and Chunk the chubby kid. But where are they now? And what do they look like in 2006? The ever-helpful folks at imdb helped us out of our misery. We found out that Chunk ain't that chunky no more, that Short Round is doing hollywoodian martial arts choreography, that one of the kids went on to become a hobbit and that even Josh Brolin was a Goonie. Also Sloth, or at least the 6'8" football-player who embodied him, passed away due to heart failure four years after they wrapped the film. But what we forgot all about, was that the little red-head was played by Kerri Green, who also starred next to Corey Haim in one of our other beloved 80's childhood movies: Lucas. We remember having the biggest crush on her in that film, that by the way also featured very young versions of Charlie Sheen, Courtney Thorne-Smith (yes THE Courtney Thorne-Smith) and was the debut-film for Wynona Ryder, who we later developed a crush upon, but that's for a different post. As a bonus, we searched and found some of these great wav's from the Goonies movie, delivered by the Chunk-meister himself, cuz he truely had the best lines. Those who got the remixing, mash-upping skillz, please, don't hold back and say hi to Spielberg's lawyers from us.

No matter how sleepy we are, first we have to send out big props to where props are due. Shout out and hollers at the tea-lovin' gentlemen at VX mansion for making the post-production a walk through the park. 'Cept it was more of a run through the minefield. With our legs chained together. While crocodiles chased us. Through barbed-wire mazes. And yet Mr. Goap still managed to guide us through with none too many bruises. Kudos to you dear sir, kudos. Second in line are the fine folk at Talent & Vision for granting us some editing time and helping us out in more than one way. Because yes, as of today, the Milow clip is finished. Shot, cut and print in one month and online starting tomorrow. Be sure to check it out and don't hesitate to tell us what you think of it. If patience was a dollar, you guys'd be millionaires by now. First, my hat goes off to my readers for still hanging around this dumpholish blog of mine. It's true, you get used to the smell and it's always nice to be recognized somewhere but what you have put up with the last couple of months... if we were you, we'd seriously feel neglected. But we've got excuses a-plenty, as always. We have been busy when we weren't blogging. The Daily is doing The Milow. Or at least the video for his soon to be released single "One Of It". We can't lift too much of our skirts yet but keep checking in on us and maybe in a year or so we'll post an update with the full monty. As for now, you'll just have to believe us when we say this is gonna rock some asses all the way to Washington and back. We will however, 'cause you know that's how we roll, tease you with some behind the scenes photography of our day out, shooting stills that will end up in the clip. You might, or more likely might not, recognize multi-talented, all around nice guy Pieter Baert with his finger on the trigger, shooting for dear life the staged romance between Milow and Patience-award nominee Sieghild. Pieter has got a nice blog going for him, check it, leave some comments and tell him we said hello. Also, he's one of the founding fathers of drieduizend.be, just as note-worthy as the previous. Giving you people the silent treatment for so long to only break that silence with some ads?! If we were you we'd give up hope on us and never check again. Than again you are you, and we like you, and we are we, and we like us. So enjoy the following. Soon we'll be bugging the hell out of you again on a regular basis. Be happy troopers in the meantime and play nice. * Stella Artois, apart from kiddieporn dungeons and the worst taxes on European soil, is what Belgium is famous for in the rest of the world. To promote the beer over in England they had an ad running this summer in several magazines that kept audiences guessing and nerds posting on fora. It kinda got viral and moved overseas where more nerds kept guessing, including yours truely. The ad consists of three typical English scenes that have been invaded by filmcharacters, props and winks. Every ad has 20-something movies hidden in it, some more obvious than others. So let's have a little contest here, first one to name as many films as he/she can wins a post named after him/her. We know, we know, wishfull thinking. We don't have any female readers. So send in your answers (we will know when you cheat and if you do, a puppy will die). Ten bonus points for the first one who spots the Fight Club refference. Props to Lowe London for the idea. (translates roughly into: Ford does miracles). I'm no partiot, but the next ad is not for a Belgian brand but props go out to Ogilvy Belgium for creating it. The people who read this and are from Belgium, might have noticed these billboards around the streets and more noticably in the stations of mayor cities (Brussels, Antwerp, Gent, Luik etc). It's just a close up of a face, nothing special. But something always struck me as odd with those pictures, I couldn't put my finger on it. They have a certain unheimlichkeit about them. Don't ask me to translate that, read here if you will. And now I know why. Apparently it's one of the first interactive billboards ever used commercially. Click here to see it in action. We haven't been rolling along The Shadow lately, he did some pretty bad things in our book but we stumbled upon this and thought we'd share it. Herr Brian Udelhofen, studied percussion and mathematics, and has adapted Building Steam with a Grain of Salt from Shadow's Endtroducing for a percussion Quintet. The result sounds a little like this. Pretty neat! And if you kids have read this blog properly, ya'll remember this right? Indeed, an awesome post, thank you very much. Loads of work. Haven't really got the time. Once again, we know, it's getting mighty old of us to say this. So let's get this baby cracking like rice crispy treats. * Those egotastic maniacs at Egotastic.com tell me that a script for a possible Batman vs. Superman movie is in the works, and the movie will go ahead depending on whether or not Batman Begins and Superman Returns are successful. I think we can all assume they will. Should the movie go ahead, Christian Bale and Brandon Routh will reprise their roles of Batman and Superman, respectively, as they are contracted to do so.

Here's a basic outline of the plot:

When Bruce Wayne goes out seeking bloody vengeance on the murderer of his new bride, Jennifer. Superman opposes him, fights him to the near death - then it's discovered that the guy behind Jennifer's murder is also this big baddie in Superman's circle and they unite to fight. Warner Bros. has commissioned a script from Andrew Kevin Walker ('Seven') with Wolfgang Petersen ('The Perfect Storm') directing. This is a different project from either Batman 5 or Superman 5.

* "But why would Superman do such a horrible thing like kicking The Bat to kingdom come?" asked Mr. Goap. "Cuz Superman's a dick!" we answered

Even the song, although repetitive sometimes, got sort of catchy.

CGChannel has an interview and loads of "before&after" clips. * Carpark North - Human Go ahead and call me nutjob but this promo/videoclip is one of the best I've seen this year. Just watch it. Chris Cunningham does it again. At the time of Aphex Twin's Drukqs release he made a little promo called Rubber Johnny, it was about 30 seconds long and weird as shit. You can view it right here. He liked the character (which he plays himself) so much that he wanted to make it into an experimanetal short film. It's about a 16-year-old, inbred mutant's solitary existence, locked in a pitch-black basement by his ashamed parents. They are TV addict rednecks who occasionally feed Johnny and yell at him for making noise. Johnny's only company in the basement is his little dog. Mr. Bansky brings me seamlessly to the three following links. 1) He went on a trip to New York and visited all it's musea. Disguised in beard and raincoat he contributed some art of his own. It's unbelievable that he can pull stuff like this off but even more unbelievable that two of the four pieces are still up, eventhough it's out in the open on several sites and newsgazettes. 2) On the appreciation scale of one to ten, Shepard Fairey is right up there next to Banksy. The whole Obey Giant phenomenon, together with his Andre The Giant has a posse sticker campaign, has become cult over the years and made people aware of commercial overkill and mediareflection, just as Fairey hoped it would. The whole idea came to him after watching a particular movie, no doubt. The name of which being... 3) ... John Carpenter's They Live (Notice the absence of the exclamation mark), concerning the subtle takeover of a population by an alien race using subliminal messages which can only be viewed when using eyewear provided by the resistance group who has vowed to stop them. Also this film is responsible for one of the catchiest catchphrases ever stolen by a 3d-game character: "It's time to kick ass and chew bubblegum and I'm all outta gum". French television channel 'Arte TV' has been running a series of behind-the-scenes documentaries on various Comic Book creators throughout the month of January. One of these episodes focuses exclusively on Chris Ware. The website for the series has video clips of every episode BUT Ware's, though they do offer a nice original flash animation of bits from Jimmy Corrigan (This is not the same animation as the one on the Pantheon site). Anyone who reads this site knows that I have an unhealthy obsession with the work of Mr. Ware, so it should come as no surprise that I've managed to obtain a copy of the episode in question.

A huge thanks goes to David Pouchard for recording the program and sending me the tape (You can view David's bibliography of Ware's work in French publications here). I got the PAL videotape transferred to DVD (Expensive!), and am seeding a torrent of a small (but watchable) quicktime file containing the entire episode. Click here if you don't know what a torrent is and follow the directions. Otherwise, you can grab the torrent file here. I've always liked him in the films but what the heck is this? Crispin Hellion Glover's directorial debut. It looks way too 70's cultfilm for me to enjoy but maybe some of my freaked up visitors like it. This is really off my weird-o-meter. The artist in Glover claims to be inspired by "the aesthetic of discomfort," a theme which has carried over into his public behavior. During a guest stint on David Letterman's NBC show in 1987, Glover emerged wearing a wig and platform shoes, then delivered a swift kick toward Letterman's head that prompted the producers to cut to a commercial. Been really busy for a while and things are not gonna get any easier till february. Anyway could not keep this from you guys. Good ol' Chuck. While on tour promoting Diary he read from a short story named Guts. Apparently this story is so gruesome or creepy or gross that people started to puke or faint everytime or anywhere he read it. According to one guy: "swear to god, i was at a reading in san fransisco where chuck read this story in this overly crowded, stuffy, hot, library basement... and sure enough, where he starts talking about his pool experience, someone fell out of their chair and into the aisle.
